Sutton Estate, Chelsea, London
Client: Clarion Housing Group (formerly Affinity Sutton)
The Sutton Estate, built in the early 1900s, comprises 462 flats across fifteen blocks. After extensive consultation with residents and RBKC, it was agreed that redevelopment of the majority of the estate (383 flats) was the most viable option to improve the quality of accommodation for residents.
The existing estate is occupied and therefore a strategic and careful decanting plan has been developed to ensure existing residents do not need to move off site during redevelopment.
All new homes are designed to current LHDG standards as a minimum. A residents working group has informed the design.
Across the redeveloped estate, 75% of properties will continue to be available for social rent. The remaining 25% of properties will be for private sale, which will fund the redevelopment.
